Application first
A pipe may carry fluid, form part of a structure or serve as an equipment component. Similar dimensions do not make these applications interchangeable. Define the medium, temperature and loads.
Welded or seamless
Welded pipe is formed and joined at its edges; seamless pipe has no longitudinal weld. Neither type is universally preferable. The project determines the manufacturing route, permitted seam type and inspection scope.
Round or hollow section
Round pipe is used in many pipelines and structures. Rectangular and square hollow sections are considered for frames. Confirm geometry, wall thickness and material against the design.
Build the specification
Specify outside diameter, wall, length, steel grade, delivery condition, coating and quality documents. Pressure-service wall thickness requires a design calculation; the weight calculator cannot replace it.
Discuss procurement
